One of the best parts of Christmas TV for me is that, while my favorite shows are on hiatus, I can binge-watch cooking show specials like the Holiday Baking Championship. The one I was really looking forward to, however, was the Christmas tradition of The Great British Bake Off Masterclass special.
Another week, another location for the Top Chef contestants. This time they’re off to cook in Palm Springs – or, as Jason puts it, the Gay Mecca: lots of gays, lots of old people, apparently. I’m really taking a liking to Jason – his discomfort at being surrounded by the macho-group of chefs in the hot tub was adorable.
I’ve been waiting for the masterclasses all season long, and as always, they didn’t disappoint. Plenty of delicious recipes and handy tips were dispensed by Paul and Mary once again, as they tackled the challenges they set for the bakers during the competition.
Let’s take a closer look at all we learned so far:
The Great British Bake Off is over, another winner crowned, and I learned something that has nothing to do with baking technique: much like MasterChef in Australia, TGBBO absolutely kills in ratings in the UK.
Last week’s final featured Ian, Tamal and Nadiya battling it out for the much sought-after title of Winner, and it was as satisfying as the ones before it. Too bad we don’t get to actually taste the delicious desserts!
I’m an avid cooking show viewer. I watch whatever I can get my hands on, especially when it comes to baking and pastry. Anyone who knows me will attest to my neverending devotion to the genius that is Alton Brown, not to mention my immense admiration for the folks over at MasterChef Australia, but for pastry-specific competition shows, nothing beats the Great British Bake Off.
